Shepard's Pie

Originally this recipe uses lamb, but I am not a big fan of lamb smell, so I use beef instead.

Whether it’s beef, pork or lamb, it is tasty. Use your favorite meat.  

The next day I made too much mashed potatoes, I use that for this recipe. Great way to recreate another dish.

Put plenty of cheese on top and it goes very well with cold beer or white wine.

Mashed potatoes should be ready for this recipe.

Ingredients

  • 2 strips Bacon

  • 1/2 pound Ground beef

  • 1/3 small onion (diced)

  • 1 tsp olive oil

  • 1 tsp flour (option)

  • 2 TBS Ketchup

  • 1 TBS Worcestershire sauce

  • 1/3 cup White wine

  • 1/3 cup Beef stock

  • 1/2 tsp thyme (optional)

  • 1 Bay leaf (optional)

  • Salt Pepper

  • 1/4 cup frozen green peas

  • 1/2 cup Shredded cheddar cheese

  • 1 cup Mashed potatoes

Directions

  • Dice onion. Dice bacon about 1/2 inch.
  • Heat med size pan over med heat, put olive oil and cook bacon first. Add onion and sauté more.
  • When onion is tender, add ground beef and continue to cook. (Here you can add some flour.)
  • When ground beef is all cooked, add wine, soup stock, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, herbs, and salt pepper. Cook until almost all liquid is gone.
  • Add green peas. Cook until done.
  • In an oven safe plate, put meat first, then mashed potatoes, and top with cheddar cheese as in the photos.
  • Bake in the oven (350 F degree) until the top is golden brown (about 20 min).
