Athens, Greece

I visited Athens, Greece for the first time in 2018.

I used to live in Italy, but never had a chance to go to Greece. I remember that Greece was not safe at that time.

Although I’m not really interested in history, I was truly impressed at the grandeur and beauty of architectures and sculptures from thousands of years ago. A temple towering over a hill like the Parthenon… How was it build? It seems impossible that they built it without cranes, but at that time all that was available was the labor of commoners and slaves. It must have taken a long time. It is really beautiful when its lit up at night.

Greek cuisine. Whatever you choose, it’s delicious. It’s simple cooking that you can taste the goodness of the ingredients. The ultimate simple dish was “bread with olive oil and salt”. I usually try not to eat much bread, but since it was so delicious, I bought the same salt.

Seafood was great too. We went to a port city and the grilled shrimp I tried at the restaurant was really tasty, matching perfectly with champagne.

Greek yogurt is also famous, so I tried it at a popular shop. It had plenty of honey and it was super creamy.

Next time, I’d like to stretch my legs a bit and go to Santorini island, which is famous for its white buildings with blue roofs.
