Spam Musubi

Hawaii’s local favorite – Spam musubi. It’s salty, sweet and filling. Many golf course restaurants have their own spams.  Here I made with egg and yellow pickles. Try your versions. 

Spam Musubi

Ingredients

  • 1 can Spam

  • 1 large egg

  • 2 cups cooked white rice

  • 4 slices seaweed (Nori) long onigiri nori

  • 1 TBS soy sauce

  • 1 TBS Mirin (Japanese sweet sake)

Directions

  • Take out spam from the can, and slice about 1/2 inch thick. (4 slices)
  • In a frying pan, add a little oil and cook spams over med heat until golden brown.
  • Add soy sauce and mirin and cook until all the sauce is almost gone. Set aside.
  • Make flat egg bake. Whisk an egg well and cook in a frying pan over medium heat Flip and cook both sides. Set aside.
  • Shape cooked white rice like a rectangle block (as seen in the photo). Make 4 shapes.
  • Wrap rice, egg bake, spam in seaweed to shape spam musubi.
  • If furikake is available, you can mix with rice and if Japanese yellow pickles are available, you can also add on spam musubi.
